Vacation Time!

Hello Loyal Followers,
It's vacation time here at The Wigglesworth Connection! I'm travelling to along the California coast while Scarlett stays at home with her great-grandparents. I have to admit I'm feeling a little nervous about leaving her behind. This will be the first time we've ever been apart! I can tell I'm going a bit overboard... I've left two pages of instructions for Scarlett's care and tried to get her sitters to send me daily photos! Part of me knows she will be okay but the other part can't help but worry about her.

"Do I get extra treats when you're gone?"
In other news, Scarlett had to go on a bit of a diet. She went in for her yearly check-up with the vet last week. She is all healthy except for the two pounds she gained this year. It's my fault; I've been way too generous with the Craisins. Now, she is on a restricted Craisins and bunny kibble. Her Highness is not pleased with the new food plan but I'm trying to stay strong!
See you when we get back!

Whole Foods Just Made A VERY Bad Decision!

Hello, my long-lost friends!

It seems like it has been FOREVER since I've been on the blog. I've been grounded for "using the computer without human supervision" and "being a brat". Apparently, my free speech is only protected from the government, not Mommy. She also explained that rabbits were not included in the Constitution under We the People! The nerve of some founding fathers!

Now that I am allowed to use the computer again, I am angry! My inbox (Yes, I have my own inbox!) was full of emails about Whole Foods and their recent decision to sell rabbit meat. This rabbit meat would be the same exact rabbits as us domesticated pet rabbits! The most common type of meat rabbit is the New Zealand which horrifically is the breed of Mommy's last bunny. *SHUDDER*

It gets worse too! Not only are our brothers and sisters being slaughtered, they are being slaughtered inhumanely. Bunnies are not protected under the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act. Avoiding the disgusting and sad details, these rabbits can die scared and in pain. It is appalling and repulsive!

In light of these atrocities, Wigglesworth Pet Artwork, Mommy, and myself urge you to join us in taking a stand against Whole Foods and their decision! The House Rabbit Society has called for a boycott of Whole Foods here. They also have a great article on what else rabbit lovers and animal people can do to help. Another easy way to make your opinion known is to sign the petition calling for the end of Whole Foods rabbit meat program. If you would like more information on meat rabbits and the fight to end the Whole Foods program, SaveABunny has some excellent information. Please consider getting involved!
And let's remember that bunnies are friends, not food!

The Bunny Speaks

Dear Mommy,
I was shocked to see your previous post about my personal business! I never realized it would be you airing my dirty laundry and selling insider stories to tabloids. I guess some people just can't handle their jealousy!
As you mentioned, things are changing now that I am a star. Unfortunately, you left out several key changes that need to happen.
First of all, breakfast needs to be served before noon. Quit calling it brunch and acting like it is a real thing. It's you being lazy! Breakfast should be served in the morning hours regardless of your schedule.
Second, getting distracted is not an acceptable reason to forget to feed me dinner! In fact, there are no acceptable reasons to forget to feed me dinner. And no, it doesn't count when you come in later apologizing and babbling about work. I like my dinner at 6; not at 10!
Third, "Pants Free" is not the way to be! Your personal philosophy regarding clothing seems to be "Pants Free is The Way to Be" at least around the house. I must strenuously object to this policy! Not only is it unsightly but you leave yourself vulnerable to accidental injury. Like that time you sat on my pine cone?! Cover your hairless self for everyone's sake!
Finally, quit posting about MY private life on the internet! I know it must be hard being an anonymous hoomin. Especially given my meteoric rise to fame but please try to manage your petty jealousies. No more inappropriate posts about my litter box habits!
I hope you will take this message to heart. I don't like having to publicly call you out but I will do it again if necessary!
XOXO Scarlett O'Hare

P.S. See you in a few hours for BREAKFAST!

Sunday, May 25, 2014

Dear Scarlett...

Dear Scarlett,
I know you are famous now. You've had a taste of the high life and you can't be expect to live like an ordinary house bunny anymore. Changes must be made! That is totally fine. However, peeing outside the litter box is not going to be one of those changes! You are more than welcome to sleep all day, throw things around your room, constant preen and groom for your adoring public. I will even tolerate your new cultivated aloofness. But you still need to use your litter box!

In case you've forgotten, this is what it looks like! For your convenience, I've even set up 2 litter boxes in your room. That way you are never more that 3 feet from a box. It would be much easier for everyone if you did your business there rather than on the freshly washed rugs.
Enjoy your new found celebrity! And quit peeing on my floor!
Love Always,
Mommy

Guess What?

I'm the disapproving bunny over on Disapproving Bun! I'm so excited... I just love being admired! Maybe now that I'm famous, Mommy will give me extra treats. I will try to remember the little people despite my new found fame! :)

Heatwave

Hiya Chums,
As my Grandma Robin likes to say: Holy Hotflash! We're having a heatwave in San Diego this week. It's well into the 90s! Mommy always says her people weren't meant to survive in temperatures that high but what about MY people? I have fur! All I can do is rest on the tile in front of my little fan and drink ice water (Mommy put ice cubes in my bowl!). I wish I could unzip my fur for a few hours....
There's a lot of this going on around the house today:
We'll return once temperatures are suitable for human and bunny life. Until then, stay cool ( or warm depending on your location).
XOXO Scarlett

Sunday Funday!

Hello Lovelies!
It's been a Sunday Funday around here today! We cut loose and had a ball. There were naps, lunch and some fun games. Most importantly, we got comfortable! Some more than others...

You said 'Make myself comfy'!
And to add to our fun, we received an award from our buddy Speedy! He gave us the YooHoo Award. We've had to complete several tasks for our award. First, we needed to thank the person who gave it to us. Secondly, we had to comment on 3 of the blogs that received the award along with us. Hello new friends! :) Next, we are have to tell you three things we are celebrating.
1.) Being with our family today, reminded us how lucky we are to have such a wonderful and loving support system. We are celebrating our family and friends!
2.) We are so excited to have received 375 visitors (this month) to our website, Wigglesworth Pet Artwork
3.) We celebrate each other! We are both better off for knowing the other. Our human/bunny bond is worth celebrating! In fact, every bond between human and animal is precious. We celebrate you guys too!

Our next job is to pass it on to 7 blogs! Without further ado, we present the YooHoo Award to:
We hope everyone has fun passing this along! Have a wonderful week!
XOXO Meaghan and Scarlett

P.S. Check back this week to hear about my continued battle against Mommy's new camera! -Scarlett (My entries will now be italicized to avoid confusion since Mommy and I both post on here. Thanks, Auntie Sam for pointing out this glitch!)

'Easter' Bunnies

Hello Darlings,
Spring has sprung in California (not that we ever get winter!) and with it comes bunny season. Bunny cards, bunny candies, bunny plushies, bunny everything! Of course, bunny season is our absolute favorite season!

However, there is a dark side to this fabulous time: Easter. We don't object to Easter itself...We are all for religious tolerance and ham! We heartily object to the misuse of rabbits that has escalates during the Easter season. As a crazy bunny lady and a rescue bunny, we feel it is our job to act as ambassadors for rabbit-kind. We must educate the wider population about these wonderful creatures and protect rabbits from harmful misinformation.
Harmful? I don't think I like the sound of that!
One of the biggest sources of misinformation about rabbits involves the idea of Easter bunnies. Not the big furry one who brings candy, but a small delicate living animal being given as a gift. Let's make this very clear: Bunnies are not gifts or toys! They are living, breathing commitments that require extensive care and lots of understanding. They may not like children or want to be touched. They require healthcare and interaction. They are year-round bunnies, not just 'Easter' bunnies! Sadly, many of these rabbits end up homeless or in shelters once their 'owners' discover that real rabbits have needs.
As ambassadors to the lagomorph, Scarlett and I came up with a few simple ideas to prevent rabbit tragedies this Easter:
  1. Don't Give Live Animals as Gifts! This should be self-explanatory. Bringing someone an extra mouth to feed and another source of dirt is not a gift. Try chocolate or other bunny-themed items!
  2. Keep Chocolate Up High! Many a bun has been known to investigate and eat dangerous human treats. Chocolate can be fatal to rabbits so best keep the goodies out of reach.
  3. You Can Never Have Too Many Craisins! They make excellent gifts for every occasion. Big baskets full of craisins!
  4. Adopt, Don't Buy! There are plenty of bunnies waiting for good homes. Give one a chance!
Have a wonderful Easter!
XOXO Meaghan and Scarlett

Humans with bright lights

Hello My Lovely Friends,
Scarlett O'Hare here to report the happenings around the 'office'. My weekend was fairly relaxing until Mommy decided she needed a new camera. She claims her old one wasn't working but I suspect she just wanted a new way to torture me. Now, I can't get away from her and her flashing lights! Everywhere I go, Mommy follows shoving her camera in my face WITH the flash on. Doesn't she know my eyes are delicate?!
Seriously, woman! Watch the flash!
I better get use to all the attention. After all, I am adorable and a minor celebrity. I guess heavy is the head that wears the cuteness....
Its not easy being this cute!
I would be more cooperative if Mommy didn't take pictures from unflattering angles. But no, she makes me look chubby! Everyone knows white is the hardest color to pull off especially when the camera adds 10 pounds.
Does this blankie make me look fat?
Well, I am nothing if not resourceful. I will find a way to avoid Mommy and her unflattering photos. Maybe she won't see me if I stay in my cardboard house.....
XOXO Scarlett

Scarlett's a Star!

Hiya folks,
Today Scarlett finally realized her potential as starlet. That's right; she's the Disapproving Bun over at Speedy's! I'm so proud... I always knew she was meant for stardom!

Paparazzi already?!
Scarlett was definitely meant to have an adoring public. In fact, I think she has been practicing when I'm not around. I've caught her preening a few times.
Enjoy your limelight, Miss. O'Hare! I will try not to become a stage mom....

Taking a Break

Hello Loyal Followers,
I've always struggled with how much to share on here. It's important to me that you feel involved in our lives here at The Wigglesworth Connection. You are our friends! But I don't want  my business or my private life compromised by what I say publicly. It's a fine line... As such, I'm going to air on the side of caution. Please understand it is not because we don't love you or trust you!
Anyways, this week we experienced a devastating family tragedy. Scarlett and I are both fine but deeply saddened by our loss. We're just going to take some time away from the internet to be with family and recuperate. We will be back bright-eyed and bushy-tailed in a few days!

Thank you for all your friendship and support! You guys have been wonderful to us and we love you for it!

XOXO Meaghan and Scarlett

We Are Live!

Hello my lovelies,
It's Scarlett O'Hare here. Mommy is buried under paperwork and books right now so it's fallen to me to update you. Today, I helped pushed the giant red "Publish" button on our website. Mommy and I did it together! I was a little sleepy since she interrupted my nap. The good news is our official website is now online. You can go see us here! I promise you will enjoy it! I did... But I was celebrating with Craisins! :)
Whew, being an executive rabbit is exhausting! All that button-pushing and cranberry snacking has tired me out. It's time for my 'executive' nap!
See ya later!
XOXO Scarlett

We're back with excellent news!

Hello, Internet Chums!
We've been dealing with some technical issues over here at Casa Wigglesworth. Our internet stopped working. Since neither Scarlett nor I are very well-versed in technology, its taken several weeks to get the problem fixed. Luckily, our IT department was able to assist. By IT department I mean my brother and uncle and by assist I mean do all the work while stand off to the side. Regardless of the specifics, we are back on the net! Thank you to everyone who helped!
"ummm... we've been hard at work... clearly!"

So what have we been up to these last few weeks? As you can see we've been working very hard.... at napping. But we did mix it up with some lunching and lots of reading! Very little actually productivity took place at Casa Wigglesworth during our internet blackout. HOWEVER, with our internet finally stable and our workforce rested, we are excited to announce our official website for Wigglesworth Pet Artwork will be going live this week! It's been a serious labor of love to craft and we couldn't be happier to share it with everyone!

Now for our truly excellent news! This past week The Wigglesworth Connection received an award from Speedy the Cheeky House Bunny. Speedy and his mom have absolutely wonderful to us. They've welcomed us into the fold and we are grateful to call them friends! Thank you, Speedy and Rachel!
Since we are so new, we don't have 10 people to pass the award on to but we will work on making more friends. Next time we will be ready!
We can give you a list of 10 things you didn't know about Meaghan and Scarlett, though!

  1. Scarlett O'Hare is addicted to dried cranberries. She will do a little bunny dance of joy whenever she hears the bag crunch.
  2. Meaghan is equally addicted to Chex Mix. Loved ones have to watch her intake very closely.
  3. Scarlett has a stuffed bunny friend named Mr. Bunny or Mr. Bunz. He is the only other bunny she tolerates.
  4. Meaghan has a stuffed bunny friend named MacFluffers. He was a Christmas present and resides in her office chair.
  5. Scarlett loves to hatch escape plots. She rarely leaves her room but likes everyone to know she could if she wanted to.
  6. Meaghan knits in her spare time. Of course, she has only mastered the scarf.
  7. Scarlett hates the vet. She gives everyone who passes her room a look of pure betrayal for at least 48 hours following vet trips.
  8. Meaghan dislikes when strangers exclaim over how tall she is. For the record, she is 5 feet 10 inches.
  9. Scarlett is approximately 2 years old and about 6 lbs.
  10. Meaghan refuses to admit any age or weight. She is timeless!
Well, there you have it! As always, thank you for reading and have a wonderful day.
XOXO Meaghan and Scarlett

Happy Valentines Day!

Hello my lovelies!
Sorry our post is late. I've been busy celebrating Valentines Day. I had an amazing lunch with friends followed by a divine nap. Then it was Netflix on the big screen, a rare treat since I share TV privileges with a houseful. Of course, I had some extra special time with my Valentine!
"Valentine, you say? Does this come with extra treats?"
Hope you all had a wonderful day filled with love!
XOXO Meaghan (and Scarlett, who did get extra Valentines Day treats!)

My Big Day!

Hello my lovely followers,
Scarlett O'Hare here to tell you all about my big party. I was supposed to be able to post this morning as promised but Mommy hogged the computer. Like work is an acceptable reason to keep me from my public!
Here I am enjoying a present.... I wish Mommy took better pictures!

Anyways, yesterday was my big party! I had so much fun and way too many treats... In fact, I'm still recovering from all the fun. Mommy spent all day decorating the house. There were bunnies everywhere! Even better, there were pictures of me all over.
Oh look, bunnies!
Picture of me! They really were lovely.

All of my friends and family came too! I have a lot of human family for a bunny. Mommy says I'm not allowed to post pictures of them because of privacy. But I can share a picture of my favorite bunny friend!
This is Mr. Bunnz. Mom likes to make jokes about him being the strong silent type. Humans!
I had 9 people visit me for my big day! Some even brought presents. Of course, I was happy to see everyone regardless but presents are always nice.
My Goodies
There seemed to be all sorts of tasty human food. Not that I got any! My grandma did make me a bunny-shaped cake. Again, I still didn't get to eat any! I did get some nice cranberries and a bunny biscuit.
My Bunny Cake- Thanks Grandma!
Me and Grandma
Mommy unveiled a portrait of me for my party. I've been waiting to finally have a painting of myself in my room... I have one of Mommy's previous bunny. I thought I deserved a portrait too! After all, I help Mommy run Wigglesworth Pet Portraits... It's only fair I got my own portrait. I think Mommy did a wonderful job! It looks just like me. I kinda think I need a crown but Mom disagrees. I'll wear her down eventually!
Finally! My portrait
I'd say I had a really great party! There was love, craisins, and lots of bunnies! The humans seemed to have fun too. I mean, how could they not? There was pizza, cake, and me! Everything needed for fun! I think I need another nap just thinking about all the excitement. Maybe some dinner too. Well, I better go remind Mom that dinner is late!
XOXO Scarlett O'Hare
There were even Scarlett-themed favors!

Scarlett's First Gotcha Day

Hello Blogo-Buddies,
This Sunday marks a BIG day for Scarlett: It's her first Gotcha Day! I can't believe it has been a year since we adopted each other. I wish I could say ours was a love at first sight but in reality, we were both too damaged to love each other immediately. I had just lost my first bunny suddenly to GI stasis; Scarlett was an abused bunny who spent several months with a rescue group waiting for a forever home. We needed each other in a bad way!
Scarlett's First Picture
When I first brought her home, she was jumpy and shy. I couldn't touch her or move near her. Hands seemed to scare her most of all. Even when uncertain and scared, Scarlett remained curious. I could see she was really a curious and bossy bunny under her frightened exterior (That's how she got her name: Scarlett O'Hare). I remember sitting on the floor with her one night staring at each other (we did the a lot in the first few months) and telling her that I would wait as long as it took for her to be comfortable with me. It took about six months before I could pet her. It was another 2 months before she started seeking me out for love and play. In the meantime, she saw me through grief so deep I thought I wouldn't survive. We saved each other in every sense!
A Happy Scarlett
Today, Scarlett is a happy and trusting rabbit who no longer fears hands or new people. As predicted, she is a bossy bit of business who likes to nip and nudge people until they move where she wants them. Scarlett has revealed her unnatural intelligence in several elaborate escape plans. Her great-grandfather (an engineer) frequently declares things bunny-proof only to be foiled by Scarlett and her nefarious plans.  She has come so far this year. I am so proud of her. I am proud to be her mommy!
In honor of Scarlett and her incredible accomplishments, we are having a little party. This Sunday shall be Scarlett's Big Day, a celebration of her first year! There will be food, family, friends fun, and of course, a bunny theme! We wish we could have each and every one of you join us but the next best thing:
Tune in Monday morning for pictures and stories from the party!
XOXO, Meaghan

Wigglesworth loses a friend

For the most part, our world here at Wigglesworth Pet Artwork is a happy one. We get to look at cute pets all day and take 3 hour lunches! But today, there is a cloud in our skies. Our beloved friend, Sasha has passed away. Sasha was a wonderful cat who fought all his life to remind humans of their place. He ruled his people with an iron paw. With the swish of his tail and an imperial look, Sasha seemed to say, "You are beneath me, peasant!" But despite his disdain for humanity, Sasha was loved by all who met him. You just couldn't help admiring his authority and kitty charisma as he strutted past you. But it was his secret tender side that won our hearts. King Sasha (as his familiars called him) had a soft spot for a warm lap and a few cuddles. Of course, this weakness never got in the way of his work as superior cat. He was in short a magnificent creature. Our thoughts and love go out to Sasha's family and friends. We thank them for giving him such a loving home all these years (and for the photo). We will miss Sasha dearly!

Hello World

Welcome to the Wigglesworth Connection!
We are the official blog for Wigglesworth Pet Art. At Wigglesworth Pet Artwork, we specialize in custom pet portraits. It is a fun business! Who wouldn't love to work with animals and their people?! Everyday we get to celebrate the special bonds between animals and their people. It is pretty sweet gig!
At this time, we are a one woman/one bunny company. The human, Meaghan, does most of the work while the bunny, Scarlett O'Hare, retains a management position. Like most rabbits, Scarlett believes she is the boss of everything. Nobody is brave enough to tell her otherwise.
Here on our little blog, we will be posting company updates along with the random musings of a house rabbit and her human. We hope you will come back and read us again soon!
